Destination: Bach Ma National Park
General Introduction: Bach Ma National Park is situated in the central Annamite mountains and located in Thua Thien Hue province, 650km from Hanoi. The national park lies on a high mountain ridge that runs west-east from the Laotian border to the East Sea at Hai Van pass. The main forest types found within the national park are lowland evergreen forest below 900m asl, and montane evergreen forest above this elevation. To date, over 300 bird species have been recorded at Bach Ma, the national park lies at the southern extent of the Annamese Lowland Endemic Bird Area and is known to support populations of at least four of the restricted range species found in this EBA including: Annam Patridge, Crested Argust, Short-tailed Scimitar Babbler and Grey-faced Tit Babbler. In addition, the national park supports a population of an endemic sub-species of Silver Pheasant Lophura nycthemera beli.
Itinerary
Day 1. Hanoi – Bach Ma (L/D).
Depart from Hanoi to Hue city by domestic flight. Arrive at the national park in the early afternoon.Go up to the Guest House at the top of mountain. Check-in followed by birding around the area.
Dinner and overnight stay at the national park guest house.
Day 2. Bach Ma (B/L/D).
Full day birdwatching following the Crested Argust trail.
Packed lunch. Breakfast, dinner and overnight at national park guest house.
Day 3. Bach Ma (B/L/D).
Full day birdwatching following the trails up to the summit.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner and overnight at national park guest house.
Day 4. Bach Ma – Hanoi (B/L/).
Morning birding around the park headquarters. Return to Hue city and take flight back to Hanoi in the afternoon.
Breakfast and lunch at the guest house.
Highlight species: Blyth 's Kingfisher, Ratchet-tailed Treepie, Annam Partridge, Silver Pheasant, Red-vented Barbet, Red-collared Woodpecker, Bar-bellied Pitta, Blue-rumped Pitta, Indochinese Green Magpie, White-winged Magpie, Hainan Blue Flycatcher, White-gorgeted Flycatcher, Grey-crowned Tit, Short-tailed Scimitar Babbler, Black-browed Fulvetta, Indochinese Yuhina
